Newborn Photography Session [up to 6 weeks of age]

Our aim is to capture your baby’s beautiful little features during those special first days in a calm and stress free environment.

Newborn photographs will be something you will truly treasure forever.

Please rest assured that your baby is in very safe hands. We have worked with children for the last 6 years in early years settings. We are both qualified to degree level in education. We have engaged in newborn photography training courses, which focus on posing newborns safely and we also have a wealth of experience as parents and grandparents.

We would ask that parents/families do not take photographs of babies during the Photo Session.

Some FAQs

When should I book my newborn photo shoot and what does the fee include?

We advise that you book your newborn session at the earliest opportunity possible after your 20 week scan. We don’t book in too many of the same due dates in the one week to ensure that we can be flexible if dates change (which often happens with due dates)

We take note of your due date in our diary and ask that your or a family member contact us as soon as you have had your baby so that we can schedule in an available session date and time. The session fee covers the session time, use of props, up to 5 hours editing/post processing and your viewing and ordering appointment or set up of online gallery.

What is the best way to prepare my baby for the photo shoot?

On the morning of the shoot it is best to try and keep baby awake for as long as possible. After their morning feed keep baby stimulated and awake by bathing them, letting them kick in just their nappy and keep them moving around. Try to feed and change your baby before travelling to me.  Babies usually take about 20 minutes to fall into a deep, settled sleep, which is perfect for arriving at the studio.

To get the best out of the newborn session the main aim is to keep baby happy, sleepy and settled. If you could dress your baby in just a baby grow [no vest] covering them in a blanket to keep them warm and relaxed. This will allow the minimum fuss when getting your baby out of their car seat.

It is really important to keep a quiet, calming environment to enable your baby to stay in a nice deep sleep. We ask that a maximum of 2 adults are there at the photo shoot for the same purpose

Do I need to bring anything for the session?

There isn’t really anything to bring except your usual changing bag – nappies, feeds, dummies[if used]. We have a wide range of beautiful props, which will incorporate different themes and colours so we can create a variety of different looks.

Most photographs are done using our wraps, hats and outfits, or nude, but if you have a particular outfit that you would like to bring for us to photograph baby in, we are happy to do so.

We use heaters to keep baby’s body temperature warm throughout the shoot, therefore it can get quite warm in the studio for all of the adults too so we do recommend wearing layers.

If you are bringing another sibling with you please bring something to keep them amused. As our Newborn sessions can take over 3 hours it would be advisable to ask another family member to take your older child out once we have photographed them if they get restless.

How long do the sessions take?

Newborn photoshoots can take anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours depending on how settled baby is. We allocate at least 3 hours for each newborn photo shoot to ensure there is plenty of time for comfort breaks. Your baby will always lead the session and therefore it becomes a relaxed and enjoyable experience.

What if my baby cries or won’t sleep at the session?

It is probable that your baby will cry at some point during the session. Babies cry when they are tired or hungry so please don’t worry. We will always take time to settle baby to ensure they are in a deep settled sleep. It is very normal for the first hour of the session to be taken with settling the baby. Some babies stay soundly asleep, others can take time.

Will you be handling my baby?

We work together during the sessions with Nicole leading the session with handling baby to ensure we get the best results. We find that baby settles easier if they are put to sleep with Nicole and not mum, as they associate Mum with feeding (bottle or breast fed). If baby is extremely unsettled we will ask Mum to give a little cuddle or a top up feed.

Nicole takes the upmost care when handling your baby to ensure they are completely safe at all times, posing baby carefully and gently so that your baby is happy at all times. We will talk to you about the poses we are aiming for. If you are unhappy or uneasy about any poses please let us know.

You or your family member may be asked to take part in supporting baby during certain poses to ensure maximum safety.

What if my baby makes a mess on your props/blankets?

Many poses are done with baby’s nappy off so it is quite likely that they will wet or poo. This happens at most of our newborn shoots. We do layer special pads under each set up and all of our props/blankets and set ups are washed after each session.
